      1. Macao celebrates 25th anniversary of return to motherland

      Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Macao from Dec. 18 to 20 and stressed the long-term adherence to "one country, two systems" as Macao celebrates a quarter-century of transformative success since its return to the motherland. He called on the new Macao SAR government to promote the appropriate diversification of the local economy, improve governance efficiency, build a platform for higher-level opening up, and safeguard social harmony and stability.

      2. CNS Fujian completes fifth trial voyage

      The CNS Fujian, China's third aircraft carrier and the world's biggest non-American carrier, has carried out five sea trials. The Fujian made its first sea trial in early May. The second trial voyage took place through late May and early June, while the third happenedn July and the fourth was done in September.

      3. Shenzhou-19 crew members in spacewalk

      Shenzhou-19 mission crew members conducted their first spacewalk outside the Tiangong space station on Tuesday. Cai Xuzhe, Song Lingdong and Wang Haoze, worked for nine hours on completing multiple tasks, including the installation of space-debris protection devices.

      4. Chinese scientists publish findings from lunar soil samples 

      Chinese scientists recently obtained the first information on the ancient magnetic field on the far side of the Moon through the analysis of lunar soil samples brought back by the Chang'e 6 mission. The research team found that the lunar magnetic field intensity may have rebounded around 2.8 billion years ago, challenging the previously accepted conclusion that the lunar magnetic field sharply decreased around 3.1 billion years ago and remained in a low-energy state.

      5. China extends visa-free transit stays to 240 hours, adds more entry points

      China announced a significant relaxation of its visa-free transit policy, extending the permitted stay for eligible foreign travelers from the original 72 and 144 hours to 240 hours, or 10 days. Effective immediately, 21 additional ports have been designated for visa-free entry and exit, and the areas in which transit travelers can stay have been expanded.

      6. Giant snowman unveiled in China's Harbin

      The snowman began greeting the public on Tuesday and was constructed to welcome the winter tourism season and the 9th Asian Winter Games, which will be held from Feb 7 to 14 next year in the city. Built with approximately 2,000 cubic meters of snow, the sculpture is 10 meters wide and 18 meters tall.

      7. Child abductor Yu Huaying sentenced to death in final appeal

      The Guizhou High People's Court has dismissed Yu Huaying's appeal, upholding the original death sentence handed down during her first trial for child trafficking. This decision concludes all avenues of appeal for Yu.

      8. First batch of direct transport cargo through Peru's Chancay port to arrive in Shanghai

      The first batch of direct cargo through Chancay port in Peru has completed customs pre-declaration procedures, and will arrive at Shanghai. The first direct cargo includes over 20,000 tons of Peruvian specialty fruits such as blueberries, avocados, grapes, and mangoes.

      9. New discoveries made at Terracotta Warriors site

      Archaeologists have discovered a rare Terracotta Warrior figure resembling a senior military officer in the No. 2 pit nearby the tomb of Qinshihuang, the First Qin Emperor, in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

      10. Giant pandas arrive in Australia

      Giant pandas Xing Qiu and Yi Lan arrived in Adelaide, capital of South Australia, after flying for around 11 hours across approximately 8,800 km. Xing Qiu, a four-year-old male, and Yi Lan, a three-year-old female, both from the Dujiangyan base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, are set to settle at Adelaide Zoo for the next decade.
