A special exhibition of Dazu Rock Carvings kicked off at the National Museum of China in Beijing on Friday. A total of 82 fine collections from the Dazu Rock Carvings Museum, including the statue of Buddha Shakyamuni, the Guanyin statue and censer, are on display.

The Dazu Rock Carvings are a series of Chinese religious sculptures and carvings established in the early years of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) that became prosperous in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). Located in the Dazu District of Chongqing Municipality, the Dazu Rock Carvings were inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List as a cultural heritage site in 1999.
