Village head wrongly jailed clears his name

A village leader in Gongyi, Henan province, wrongly imprisoned for 487 days, had his guilty verdict quashed, and was given compensation, after a six-year appeal process, Dahe Daily reported on Tuesday.

Wang Quanxue, former head of Tieshenggou village, was arrested in September 2005 on suspicion of corruption.

In July 2006, Wang was given a two-year sentence, later reduced to one year and four months, after he appealed.

Wang was released on Jan 9, 2007 and immediately lodged an appeal.

On June 17, 2013, the Intermediate People's Court of Zhengzhou, capital of Henan province, cancelled the judgment on Wang and announced he was innocent.

On Oct 15, 2013, Wang recieved 118,804 yuan ($19,500) from the Gongyi court in compensation for his 487 days of imprisonment.
